Your vandalism list

Hi, k6ka! Why you take out the vandalism list on your user page? I thought it's a quote. --Allen (talk to me! / ctrb / E-mail me) 00:12, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@AllenHAcNguyen: I was thinking about the list a lot recently, and as any vandal fighter knows (or at least *should* know) is that vandals tend to crave attention. Keeping a list of edits they made gives them that attention so they keep coming back for more. The words WP:DENY keeps floating around in my head and I've cited the policy on many talk pages as well. I almost looked like a hypocrite keeping this list. I wasn't adding anything to it anyway, so I figured it would be better to simply remove it. However I'm not requesting the revisions to be REVDEL'd, so you can always view them here anytime you want.
I might be making vandal-fighting more of a job than a fun hobby, but I can still laugh at these silly edits at the end of the day, anyway. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:23, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Edit on Tracy Ann Oberman

Hi there.. On your last entry re JC quote you have selectively chosen a sentence from the said article of TAO piece without using the whole meaning of the article. In doing so you are either trying to make a political point or have forgotten to add the rest of the article. It is unhelpful and unnecessary to the page and appears to be put in with an "agenda". Please add the whole sentence or remove it entirely. Thankyou ---- — Preceding unsigned comment added by Swordofmarble (talkcontribs) 14:42, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Swordofmarble: You haven't addressed the other reasons as to why you removed content without explanation and inserted unsourced content. Also I did not selectively choose the sentence, the revert was a "full revert", not a "partial pick-and-choose" one. I fail to see how I'm trying to "make a political point" when it was a direct quote from another source. Quotes can either be detached from the text and separate or they can be "merged into the text". Also, this edit is clearly outside the neutral point of view policy and reads more like commentary. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 15:15, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tyco US -1 Trucking

Hello.

My first wiki update attempt.

I have added info to what was a very bare page.

I have attempted to add two links to ModelMotorist.com to show chassis and track types used in the range.

This site is very informative and helpful and shows most of the different types of tracks and chassis usd in HO slot cars. In particular US-1 Trucking, so I don't feel it is inappropriate.

I have no commercial interest in that site, but have found it useful in research

@Highwayman97: It might be easier if you included it as a footnote citation. Is there a specific piece of information in the article that the website you linked to supported? --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 23:35, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor newsletter—September and October 2014

Did you know?

TemplateData is a separate program that organizes information about the parameters that can be used in a template. VisualEditor reads that data, and uses it to populate its simplified template dialogs.

With the new TemplateData editor, it is easier to add information about parameters, because the ones you need to use are pre-loaded.

See the help page for TemplateData for more information about adding TemplateData. The user guide has information about how to use VisualEditor.

Since the last newsletter, the Editing team has reduced technical debt, simplified some workflows for template and citation editing, made major progress on Internet Explorer support, and fixed over 125 bugs and requests. Several performance improvements were made, especially to the system around re-using references and reference lists. Weekly updates are posted on Mediawiki.org.

There were three issues that required urgent fixes: a deployment error that meant that many buttons didn't work correctly (bugs 69856 and 69864), a problem with edit conflicts that left the editor with nowhere to go (bug 69150), and a problem in Internet Explorer 11 that caused replaced some categories with a link to the system message, MediaWiki:Badtitletext (bug 70894) when you saved. The developers apologize for the disruption, and thank the people who reported these problems quickly.

Increased support for devices and browsers

Internet Explorer 10 and 11 users now have access to VisualEditor. This means that about 5% of Wikimedia's users will now get an "Edit" tab alongside the existing "Edit source" tab. Support for Internet Explorer 9 is planned for the future.

Tablet users browsing the site's mobile mode now have the option of using a mobile-specific form of VisualEditor. More editing tools, and availability of VisualEditor on smartphones, is planned for the future. The mobile version of VisualEditor was tweaked to show the context menu for citations instead of basic references (bug 68897). A bug that broke the editor in iOS was corrected and released early (bug 68949). For mobile tablet users, three bugs related to scrolling were fixed (bug 66697, bug 68828, bug 69630). You can use VisualEditor on the mobile version of Wikipedia from your tablet by clicking on the cog in the top-right when editing a page and choosing which editor to use.

TemplateData editor

A tool for editing TemplateData will be deployed to more Wikipedias soon. Other Wikipedias and some other projects may receive access next month. This tool makes it easier to add TemplateData to the template's documentation. When the tool is enabled, it will add a button above every editing window for a template (including documentation subpages). To use it, edit the template or a subpage, and then click the "Edit template data" button at the top. Read the help page for TemplateData. You can test the TemplateData editor in a sandbox at Mediawiki.org. Remember that TemplateData should be placed either on a documentation subpage or on the template page itself. Only one block of TemplateData will be used per template.

Other changes

Several interface messages and labels were changed to be simpler, clearer, or shorter, based on feedback from translators and editors. The formatting of dialogs was changed, and more changes to the appearance will be coming soon, when VisualEditor implements the new MediaWiki theme from Design. (A preview of the theme is available on Labs for developers.) The team also made some improvements for users of the Monobook skin that improved the size of text in toolbars and fixed selections that overlapped menus.

VisualEditor-MediaWiki now supplies the mw-redirect or mw-disambig class on links to redirects and disambiguation pages, so that user gadgets that colour in these in types of links can be created.

Templates' fields can be marked as 'required' in TemplateData. If a parameter is marked as required, then you cannot delete that field when you add a new template or edit an existing one (bug 60358).

Language support improved by making annotations use bi-directional isolation (so they display correctly with cursoring behaviour as expected) and by fixing a bug that crashed VisualEditor when trying to edit a page with a dir attribute but no lang set (bug 69955).

Looking ahead

The team posts details about planned work on the VisualEditor roadmap. The VisualEditor team plans to add auto-fill features for citations soon, perhaps in late October.

The team is also working on support for adding rows and columns to tables, and early work for this may appear within the month. Please comment on the design at Mediawiki.org.

In the future, real-time collaborative editing may be possible in VisualEditor. Some early preparatory work for this was recently done.

Supporting your wiki

At Wikimania, several developers gave presentations about VisualEditor. A translation sprint focused on improving access to VisualEditor was supported by many people. Deryck Chan was the top translator. Special honors also go to संजीव कुमार (Sanjeev Kumar), Robby, Takot, Bachounda, Bjankuloski06 and Ата. A summary of the work achieved by the translation community has been posted here. Thank you all for your work.

VisualEditor can be made available to most non-Wikipedia projects. If your community would like to test VisualEditor, please contact product manager James Forrester or file an enhancement request in Bugzilla.

Please join the office hours on Saturday, 18 October 2014 at 18:00 UTC (daytime for the Americas; evening for Africa and Europe) and on Wednesday, 19 November at 16:00 UTC on IRC.

Give feedback on VisualEditor at mw:VisualEditor/Feedback. Subscribe or unsubscribe at Meta. To help with translations, please subscribe to the Translators mailing list or contact Elitre at Meta. Thank you!

Parachute page

I saw your message about my modification (from croatian Fausto Veranzio to dalmatian Fausto Veranzio), but saying that Veranzio is Croatian is totally wrong. Sebenico, like other towns in Dalmatia, have a population of Latin, Italian and Slave origins. The culture is italian (It was under Venezia's republic rule and Veranzio studied at Padova and Venezia). So when we are talking about people who came from towns that have so unusual nad complicated situation, it's better to avoid to use adjective like Slave, Croatian or Italian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.7.41.166 (talk) 10:31, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fausto Veranzio was born in Croatia, so even if he came from a diverse town we still call him "Croatian". Just like a Chinese person from New York City would still be called "American". And secondly, it may confuse readers when one article says he's Dalmatian and the article about Fausto Veranzio himself says he's Croatian. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Most likely someone else that was using your IP address vandalized Wikipedia and accumulated warnings, then they left and nobdy saw the warnings until you logged on and acquired the IP address. You may be using a shared IP address, so you might get messages that were not intended for you. Your best option would be to create an account of your own, which will hide your IP address and ensure that only messages directed to you are seen by you... providing you log in, that is. --I am k6ka Talk to me! You will need a reliable source that accurately confirms that you are the record holder. See WP:CITE for help on citing sources in articles. Simply claiming that you are the subject isn't accepted on Wikipedia as there is no real way of verifying this fact, as anyone can create an account and claim to be someone. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Thank you, for addressing my request for a Username change

Thank you, very much, for your prompt response to my Username-change request. I see that you do plenty of work, to keep Wikipedia healthy and strong. And that work is of a technical and specialized nature which is far beyond my own abilities, at least as much as it is far beyond the ken of most users of this greatest-of-all websites. I know your job is thankless—thus, against that thanklessness, here I strike! All the best, to you and yours. Analogdrift (talk) 07:59, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Analogdrift: Thank you! Yes, this job is very thankless and very under-recognized by the general public and the global community outside of Wikipedia. For over a decade thousands of people have been working tirelessly to get articles out to the public and to build Wikipedia to what it is today. Even today, new pages are being created, articles are being improved, and errors are being fixed. And despite all of this work people still continue to pass Wikipedia off as a faceless website that anyone can edit and make deliberate factual errors to fool the world. *sigh* The nerve of rude people nowadays! --I am k6ka Talk to me! My post.

Im sorry, I thought I WAS using a sandbox. And testing and having fun. I was unaware that I was actually doing something and changing the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.116.73.21 (talk) 20:38, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So some lazy random editor (with an obvious bias against sidemen musicians) along with someone equally as lazy agreeing with him are all that is required to remove a Wikipedia article? This article was well documented, included plenty of easily found evidence of relevancy and a CLEAR trail of articles and sites like the ones listed below for anyone willing to take more than a cursory glance.

1. I can't restore the deleted page because I'm not an administrator, so I can't undelete pages.
2. The page you edited was the deletion discussion page of the article in question. If you disagree with the deletion you should take part in the discussion and voice your status on why you think the article should've been kept. Removing other people's messages on discussion pages other than your own are against the talk page guidelines.
3. The discussion page is archived. Please do not edit it.
4. I'm a neutral party. I did not take part in the deletion discussion nor did I ever edit the article. I merely saw your edit while patrolling recent changes and I have no affiliation with the people that took part in the deletion discussion or process. So don't label me as one that needs to take blame.
But now that the article has been deleted you're better off going through the deletion review process instead. You might also want to read how Wikipedia decides how articles are deleted too. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 02:20, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, think about it ;) You never see people sign their name when you read a Wikipedia article. Neither should you! It looks unprofessional, for one thing, and for the other, Wikipedia is a collaborative project, because editors work together to build an article, not just one person. Signing names in articles give the impression of ownership and as a rule, articles are owned by the community, not by one person. It also says at WP:SIGNHERE that Edits to articles must not be signed, as signatures on Wikipedia are not intended to indicate ownership or authorship of any article. Rather, the page history takes care of the need to identify edits with users. So don't worry about your work going uncredited; it is automatically done for you.
