Thanks For the Info and Sorry About the Mistakes

Hello K6ka,

I just wanted to thank you for the helpful information and apologize for the post removal/forgetting to sign my messages/not including reasoning for post edits. I actually edited the post/messages multiple times just for the sake of signing it and I didn't even notice the reasoning section at the time. And the post removal was due to someone else accessing my account, they messed up a few other things too. Anyway, they will not be issues in the future and thanks again for the info. - Fwitasfm (talk) 04:35, 4 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Using the vandal template

I'm trying to get attention for some of Czar's edits. As they constitute vandalism, I'm sure that seeing an IP edit to you means "yeah, nothing to see here, just warn and move on" but please do read on.

The page Dawn(demo) (Not sure how to link to old versions using [[]] syntax) was without a doubt vandalised, as was the other Nvidia tech demo of the time, they were left with redirects that'd make no sense to people coming from the pages that link there. Like me! I thought I had the wrong tab.

See also Orb3D which I admit isn't a great page, but is a page worth having (see the pages that link there also)

I'm also not sure how to reply to things (evidently) so a quick guide to that would be nice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.204.46 (talk) 17:00, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Refer to WP:Vandalism to see what we call "vandalism" on Wikipedia. Vandalism is all too common a term used by editors when they're unhappy with another editor, but this is an incorrect usage of the term. Also, using the {{Vandal}} template on someone's userpage does absolutely nothing to resolve the issue. Please see WP:Dispute resolution for how we resolve editing disputes. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:18, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Can I get notifications when you reply? Also the user has done a lot of questionable edits (look at their contributions) with I'm sure a lot of good. If a vandal is vandalising the page what use it is on the page? As for the semantics of the term, even if his intent was good leaving a redirect to the manufacturer or creator of an otherwise erased page is not good. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.196.204.46 (talk) 17:33, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@90.196.204.46: We use the term "vandalism" for someone who is acting in bad faith. We do not use the term "vandalism" for someone who is acting in good faith (see the difference?). In general we assume that people are editing Wikipedia for the purpose of building and improving the project, not harming it. Especially considering that the user in question is an administrator, it would be highly unlikely that they would act in bad faith and intend to harm the project. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Adminship

Hi. If you're so sure that you can provide us with some urgently needed help as an admin and are sufficiently qualified, if you read this and then read this and can more or less check all the boxes, you are almost guaranteed a clean run through RfA and a pass with flying colours, and I'll nominate you. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 19:43, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Kudpung: Thanks. I've read the former several times already, and while I can say I have a number of boxes checked, there are lots of rough edges, most notably my lack of AfD participation and my so-and-so NPP. I personally want to improve in this area (at the very least) before considering an RFA, even if my activity with the mop in this field is minimal. --I am k6ka Talk to me! Vetbook

Dear K6ka; Kindly you had deleted my article of "Vetbook" which is a non profit organization (www.vetbook.net); The organization is legally operates in Egypt and I have all documents that proves that and states that I am the founder and CEO of such organization and the owner of domain (www.vetbook.net).

Please help; since I had went through too much text on Wikipedia to resolve it however I failed to do.

my Username on Wikipedia is: "Eslamvet" and article name is "Vetbook".

Please help.

Eslamvet (talk) 00:02, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Eslamvet: Some clarification:
  1. I did not delete your article, as I am not an administrator. I tagged your article for deletion, but did not actually delete it.
  2. The reason why your article was deleted has nothing to do with what you just told me, as it was deleted for being a blatant copyright violation. Since Wikipedia operates under free licenses, we can't just accept copyrighted work. Everything on Wikipedia needs to be written in your own words. Students are taught about this as well, and simply copy and pasting from a source onto Wikipedia is considered plagiarism. For students, it's an automatic fail; for Wikipedia, it could mean legal trouble.
  3. Again, as I am not an administrator, I can't assist you with undeletion. However, you may file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion to have the article undeleted; however, as the article contains copyrighted content, it may not be undeleted anyway.

--I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 00:54, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear; As far as you are not administrator; I will check for that with whom in-charge. However that I would pay your attention that article is simply a description for a non -profit organization which has the same website that information is there. So I am not happy with describing it as copyright violation (And students are taught that....etc.); since I am the founder of such organization and I am the owner of such website. Anyway, Thanks for your prompt response.

Regards... Eslam

Eslamvet (talk) 12:14, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Eslamvet: Again, if the content was copied and pasted from elsewhere, Wikipedia simply cannot accept it. Text added to Wikipedia must be under the CC-BY-SA license and the GFDL. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Because Wikipedia aims to be a 1) Freely accessible and freely reusable source of information, and 2) Freely editable by anyone, it can't accept copyrighted text. Please keep in mind that it doesn't matter what the text is about (This is a very common argument put forth by website owners who have their articles about their own website deleted), but where it came from and the license it was under. Even if the text you added was freely reusable and is compatible with Wikipedia's licenses, please also keep in mind that our articles must be written in an encyclopedic tone and not appear to be promotional, and that they must be written in a neutral point of view (e.g. "Example Inc. is the prime choice for Americans looking for fresh groceries in the Example City area" versus "Example Inc. is an American grocery store chain that primarily serves the Example City area". The former would not be accepted on Wikipedia because it is too promotional. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and is not a means of promotion.) --I am k6ka Talk to me! VisualEditor update

This note is only delivered to English Wikipedia subscribers of the visual editor's newsletter.

The location of the visual editor's preference has been changed from the "Beta" tab to the "Editing" section of your preferences on this wiki. The setting now says Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta. This aligns en.wiki with almost all the other WMF wikis; it doesn’t mean the visual editor is complete, or that it is no longer “in beta phase” though.

This action has not changed anything else for editors: it still honours editors’ previous choices about having it on or off; logged-out users continue to only have access to wikitext; the “Edit” tab is still after the “Edit source” one. You can learn more at the visual editor’s talk page.

We don’t expect this to cause any glitches, but in case your account no longer has the settings that you want, please accept our apologies and correct it in the Editing tab of Special:Preferences. Thank you for your attention, Elitre (WMF) -16:32, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

Hi, K6ka,
CSD G7 only applies to pages that you yourself have created. Top Ten Channels of India might warrant deletion under a different criteria. Liz Read! Talk! 16:50, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: That doesn't appear to be what WP:G7 says, which reads If the sole author blanks a page other than a userspace page, a category page, or any type of talk page, this can be taken as a deletion request. Administrators in the past have accepted G7 added by another user to a page where the author blanked the page. It is taken as a deletion request — nowhere does it say that the person applying the CSD tag must've been the one who created the page. (With the exception of pages in the user namespace) --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:05, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I understood CSD G7, Author requests deletion, or author blanked meaning the author of the article took the action. But you are correct, the author did blank the page so your tagging was valid. As a form of explanation, right before this page, I had just refused a G7 for a user page where a different editor had requested its deletion so that was what was in my mind. I apologize for the confusion. Liz Read! Talk! 17:22, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Andi Sex Gang

Hello, my editing to the Andi Sex Gang (incorrectly titled Andi Sexgang) has been undone due to my not having credentials for the editing? Well check my Facebook page Lara Gaudio and you will see many pictures of me with the person who wants his name spelled correctly as Andi Sex Gang not Andi Sexgang. And everything I wrote on the page today was what he wanted me to write, and what ridiculous reason would you have for removing my updating his most current album name? The page needs numerous updates, corrections and changes but the worst mistake is the name as Sexgang instead of Sex Gang. Check his website andisexgang.com or his FB, Twitter or even ask Andi himself and he will verify all I am saying here. signed by the username you didn't like either, larasexgang since we cannot remember the email that goes with the username officialsexgang. See? You thought I was a person that just appeared to mess up someLarasexgang (talk) 06:29, 10 October 2015 (UTC)body's page or something.[reply]

@Larasexgang: Judging by the way you wrote to me, it would seem you haven't read the message I gave you. I reverted your edit because it did not provide a reliable source. Wikipedia needs everything to be properly supported with a citation, and it can't accept original research. This goes especially true for articles about people who are alive or have recently died. What do you mean "not having credentials for the editing"? I don't have any credentials either. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 13:30, 10 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor News #5—2015

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this multilingual newsletter

Did you know?
You can use the visual editor on smartphones and tablets.

Screenshot showing the menu for switching from the wikitext editor to VisualEditor

Click the pencil icon to open the editor for a page. Inside that, use the gear menu in the upper right corner to "Switch to visual editing".

The editing button will remember which editing environment you used last time, and give you the same one next time. The desktop site will be switching to a system similar to this one in the coming months.

You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has fixed many bugs, added new features, and made some small design changes. They post weekly status reports on mediawiki.org. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving support for languages like Japanese and Arabic, making it easier to edit on mobile devices, and providing rich-media tools for formulæ, charts, galleries and uploading.

Recent improvements

Educational features: The first time you use the visual editor, it now draws your attention to the Link and ⧼visualeditor-toolbar-cite-label⧽ tools. When you click on the tools, it explains why you should use them. (T108620) Alongside this, the welcome message for new users has been simplified to make editing more welcoming. (T112354) More in-software educational features are planned.

Links: It is now easier to understand when you are adding text to a link and when you are typing plain text next to it. (T74108, T91285) The editor now fully supports ISBN, PMID or RFC numbers. (T109498, T110347, T63558) These "magic links" use a custom link editing tool.

Uploads: Registered editors can now upload images and other media to Commons while editing. Click the new tab in the "Insert Images and media" tool. You will be guided through the process without having to leave your edit. At the end, the image will be inserted. This tool is limited to one file at a time, owned by the user, and licensed under Commons's standard license. For more complex situations, the tool links to more advanced upload tools. You can also drag the image into the editor. This will be available in the wikitext editor later.

Mobile: Previously, the visual editor was available on the mobile Wikipedia site only on tablets. Now, editors can use the visual editor on any size of device. (T85630) Edit conflicts were previously broken on the mobile website. Edit conflicts can now be resolved in both wikitext and visual editors. (T111894) Sometimes templates and similar items could not be deleted on the mobile website. Selecting them caused the on-screen keyboard to hide with some browsers. Now there is a new "Delete" button, so that these things can be removed if the keyboard hides. (T62110) You can also edit table cells in mobile now.

Rich editing tools: You can now add and edit sheet music in the visual editor. (T112925) There are separate tabs for advanced options, such as MIDI and Ogg audio files. (T114227 and T113354) When editing formulæ and other blocks, errors are shown as you edit. It is also possible to edit some types of graphs; adding new ones, and support for new types, will be coming.

On the English Wikipedia, the visual editor is now automatically available to anyone who creates an account. The preference switch was moved to the normal location, under Special:Preferences.

Future changes

You will soon be able to switch from the wikitext to the visual editor after you start editing. (T49779) Previously, you could only switch from the visual editor to the wikitext editor. Bi-directional switching will make possible a single edit tab. (T102398) This project will combine the "Edit" and "Edit source" tabs into a single "Edit" tab, similar to the system already used on the mobile website. The "Edit" tab will open whichever editing environment you used last time.

Let's work together
